precision, performance, and professional finishes

How automotive repainting can change everything

Automotive repainting is not just an aesthetic process: it is a discipline that requires technique, experience, and high-performance materials. Each phase—from surface preparation to the final finish—requires precision in sanding, proper selection of abrasives, and absolute control over details.

FANDELI understands the importance of offering products that support your professional work. For this reason, we have created a specialized line of products for automotive refinishing, designed to achieve professional workshop finishes.

We know that for a true master painter, every detail reflects experience and passion. FANDELI accompanies you through every stage, assisting you in delivering results that not only meet but exceed expectations.

The Art of Automotive Refinishing

Automotive repainting is not just a matter of aesthetics. It is a process of restoration, protection, and customization. It is about bringing the bodywork back to life, covering imperfections, and, in many cases, reinterpreting the style of your car with a new finish.

In this process, surface preparation is essential. And that is where FANDELI products make a difference. Let’s take a step-by-step look at the key tools for a professional result.

Step 1: Professional masking

Before starting any sanding or painting work, protect the areas that are not going to be worked on. For this, choose the right tape depending on the conditions of your project:

High Temperature Automotive Masking Tape

  • Ideal for oven booths.
  • Withstands temperatures up to 120°C.
  • Waterproof and solvent resistant.
  • Flexible and conformable.

Perfect for demanding jobs involving high temperatures and humid environments. Its strength and adhesion provide a flawless seal and leave no damage when removed.

Standard Automotive Masking Tape

  • Withstands up to 80°C.
  • Leaves no residue.
  • Ideal for automotive or architectural painting.
  • Easy to reposition and apply to curves.

This tape is suitable for more conventional projects, both indoors and outdoors, where good protection is required without the need for resistance to extreme temperatures.

Step 2: Preparatory Sanding

Sanding is the stage that determines the quality of the finish. It removes old paint, levels the surface, and prepares the ground for a new coat. An example of an abrasive you could use is:

PC26 Rolls

  • Ceramic disc with aluminum blend.
  • High-performance ceramic grain
  • Flexible and resistant film backing.
  • Anchoring system: Gripit.
  • Perfect for lacquers, paints, fiberglass, metal, and plastic. Its flexibility lets you work on contours without compromising sanding efficiency.

Step 3: Contact and Detail Sanding

For more precise areas or those requiring greater control, contact discs are the ideal choice:

PC26 Contact Discs

  • Ceramic, with film backing
  • High resistance and long service life.
  • Size: 6″, with and without perforations.

Perfect for smooth but effective sanding in areas where the paint needs uniform adhesion.

CC26 Contact Discs

  • C-weight paper backing.
  • Reinforced for heavy-duty work.
  • Gripit system for easy mounting.

The paper backing delivers added rigidity, making it ideal for applications that require higher pressure or consistent flat contact.

Step 4: High-gloss polishing

This is where the car truly begins to shine. Polishing is the final stage, removing micro-scratches, leveling the surface, and delivering a mirror-like finish.

Protech Polish and Shine

  • Removes sanding scratches from P1500 grit and above.
  • Silicone- and filler-free formula.
  • Compatible with all types of paint.

Application tip: Use a polisher with variable speed. Start slowly and gradually increase the speed, applying moderate pressure. The result will be a smooth, flawless surface with a professional shine.

Step 5: Sealing and Final Protection

Once finishing is complete, it is time to protect it to make it last longer and preserve its appearance.

FANDELI Carnauba Wax

  • Shine, protection, and smoothness.
  • No abrasives.
  • Does not stain plastics.
  • Apply with a sponge using circular motions, then wipe off with a microfiber cloth.

This wax is the finishing touch. It forms a protective film that not only improves the finish, but also prolongs the life of the paint and keeps it clean for longer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Automotive Repainting

What is the correct sanding order prior to painting?

Ideally, we recommend starting with a more aggressive grit to level imperfections, then progressively switching to finer grits to prepare the surface for painting. This ensures a uniform finish without visible scratches.

How do I choose between PC26 and CC26 discs?

This depends on the desired finish and the type of job. PC26 is more flexible for contours and plastics. CC26 is more rigid and is ideal for flat surfaces and heavy-duty jobs.

How often can I apply carnauba wax?

It is recommended to apply it every 2 to 3 months or whenever you notice a loss of shine. Keep the surface clean between applications.

What mistakes should I avoid?

  • Sanding without protecting other areas.
  • Not cleaning between stages.
  • Applying products in direct sunlight.
  • Not using PPE (personal protective equipment).

From an Ordinary Car to a Legendary Finish

A good repaint improves not only aesthetics, but also a vehicle’s longevity, value, and personality. Using the right products, such as those in the FANDELI automotive line, any car can be transformed from dull to radiant, from worn to renewed.
